What happened to him?
Here is the story, Freddy Deeb went for a smoke and the guys started saying he “went south” meaning he took money off the table. When he came back they mentioned it jokingly again but kept on saying it to the point were he was offended saying its no longer a joke if you are questioning me so much (paraphrasing) saying his reputation is on the line and doesn’t want to be labeled as a cheater, eventually the floor was called and they settled it. Freddy Deeb DID NOT GO SOUTH

People forget this was all caused by Johnny Chan, Johnny let out the extremely humble line regarding Deeb going south “I guarantee it. Not much gets past my eyes.” Chan clearly believes in the myth of his character.
Johnny Chan is scummy period. Not only this example, but I’ve also heard from several dealers on how he would berate and insult them at the table when things didn’t go his way back in the day.

Technically taking money off the table is a form of cheating at poker. But yeah, this is an old story. Nothing new to see here.
